In France, we had, from 1993 to 1995, Edouard BALLADUR as Prime minister and it happens that his nephew was (maybe still is) a JW. I heard that (maybe before he was PM but nevertheless was in a position of authority) he just decided that conscientious objectors who were serving an alternative service within the National forestry department would no longer be managed by the Depatment of Defence but would be under the authority of the Department of agriculture. Therefore, young JWs were allowed by the french WTS branch, overnight, to serve this alternative service under the conscientious objector status, instead of rejecting this status and spending their army time in jail as draft dodgers. Thank you Edouard, Jehovah, for sure, will remember what you did for these small ones. As a side effect, he alleviated overcrowding in french prisons.

A Greek JW serves 15? yrs in prison for his neutrality position.
by smiddy ini`m thinking back to the 1960`s/70s of a watchtower article who described a greek brother who was imprisoned for refusing military conscription service and was sentenced to 5 yrs imprionment by the govt.at the end of his confinement he was again ordered to serve in the military, which he declined and was sentenced to another 5 yrs in prison ,i think this occured one more time.
( at that time their was no way you did alternative service ) of course he was hailed as a faithful brother who wouldn`t compromise his beleifs.of course their were probably many more people who went through an experience like this.is their anybody on the board who can verify,or enlighten us to this experience?
i would like to know what happened to the poor buggers who sacrificed their lives in this way.. smiddy.

Rutherford Exposed: The Story of Berta and Bonnie
by Farkel init was made by a women who in later years wore crotchless panties and bras which had holes in the nipple areas.
he not only knew the woman in question (she's now deceased), he has met her numerous times.
up until recently this secret of her year's long sexual affair with rutherford was kept by the family.

This in-depth and detailed work concerning Rutherford is really impressive and is evidence of the investigative qualities of such great sleuths as Leolaia and other keen researchers but, as a layman I wonder, isn't it according this pathetic charlatan more importance than he deserves ?
Lady Lee, Sorry for not having been able to put it more accurately, I just meant historians, not from the WTS but writing about the WTS .

Scott,
Unless I'm mistaken, C.T. Russell died on a train, Rutherford died in Beth Sarim.

Thank you, Yknot, for these pieces of information, well not really anything new, we wonder why they bothered to issue a new elder manual just for the sake of this brazen thing. But please would you tell us, as you seem to have an evident craving for freedom, how do you manage to stand all these meetings and the constraints of JW life ?

Twickenham Assembly 1963 newsreel
by dozy ina bit before my time , but hopefully of interest to some.
the food service brings back memories of the 70's & 80's before it was "simplified" by the wtbts.. it would seem that the 60's & early 70's were very much a golden era for the society , before the 1975 debacle.
it is always amazing watching baptisms of adults - i honestly can't remember the last time a reasonably compus mentis adult was baptised at an asembly.. http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=chrp_&m=jz1jo9yc4yjrty&b=tdwz1ywjej1njt4nmqic2a.

I used to work at the food section at Twickenham in the late 70s, under the terraces, and we would make sandwiches, with some mashed potatoes, peas and sausages, but nothing like these huge cauldrons, as far as I can remember. In France they have stored them, together with giant burners, etc. for quite a long time and sold them away only many years later.

if successful, benefits are extended to the translation departments
Sorry, I hadn't paid enough attention to what follows in the report. In fact this is the confirmation of the previous post, they are very likely to plan the disbandment of translation departments specialising in rare languages.

a ‘Simplified English’ language WT edition for countries where English is a 2nd language
First step to suppressing a number of translation departments in bethels. Can't wait to see what the simplified French literature will look like.
